I love to poke around in Asian grocery stores, just to see what fun and fabulous foods I haven't yet tried. Today I discovered very cheap "Prepared Broad Beans" - a cheap but semi-satisfactory alternative to my beloved habas fritas and the most...interesting looking drink I've ever seen. This is "Basil Seed Drink with Honey":

It's Very Sweet, not unpleasant but it has the WEIRDEST texture. Each little seed has a jelly-like capsule around it and in the mouth, it feels like little jellied balls or teensy eyes rolling around in syrup. B took one sip and flatly refused to try it again. I'm going to force myself to finish it, if only because the bottle's open and I've opened it! I also picked up a couple of steamed pork buns, a long-time favourite of mine.

you westerners are so preconditioned and associated many asian foods with something you deemed bad. Why don't you just see basil seeds in the drink as simply seed? Do you have to associate the seeds with tadpoles or eyes? Poor people!

I never said anything about this drink was bad or unpleasant. What I did was try to explain the texture of the drink and seeds to people reading this blog who haven't tried it for themselves. I don't apply sweeping generalisations to Asian food, so please don't extend your pity to this "poor person". Oh, and be brave enough to leave your name and email next time, huh? You never know, we might have lots in common.
